According to the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC), published by the UN, we have merely 12 years to reduce our carbon emissions by an astounding 45%. So essentially, 12 years to limit global warming as best as we can to prevent the crossing of the global 1.5C mark agreed upon by nations in the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015.
Once this temperature mark is crossed, scientists say that we could be facing catastrophic impacts globally. Drought, famine, heat waves, coastal flooding, species extinction, rising sea levels and coral bleaching are all in store if something isn’t done soon.
The UN is saying that drastic measures need to be put in place, and quickly. After all, 12 years isn’t that long.
What can you do to help?
Now we all know that I encourage Veganism not just for the animals but also for the PLANET. In fact, the UN is actually urging persons to adopt a Vegan lifestyle.
Did you know that animal agriculture is responsible for 51% of greenhouse gas emissions? That’s more than the entire transportation industry (planes, buses, cars, trains etc) worldwide. So by going Vegan, or simply reducing meat and dairy intake, one can have a smaller carbon footprint.
In addition to this lifestyle change, you can also help by carpooling, conserving energy and looking into different ways to help reduce your carbon footprint
I urge everyone to do research and spread the message before it’s too late.
